The gold standard for the detection of COVID-19 is a RT-PCR test which is used by NHS England and our laboratories. The results take 1-2 days to come back.

A rapid antigen test may be used to obtain a Fit for travel certificate however this is dependent on the requirements made by the relevant authorities for different countries.

​

However, if you are not travelling overseas and need to see any of your loved ones,  a rapid antigen test is an easy and affordable way of having some peace if mind.

 

The best time to get tested is after 5 days of self-isolation according to NHS England test and release service.

 

Rapid antigen tests are for the detection of active infection.

You will still need to follow all the NHS guidelines irrespective of getting this test done. By getting the rapid test you are reducing the chances of accidental exposure but not eliminating the chances. It should not give you any false sense of security which can lead to dangerous consequences for your loved ones, especially vulnerable individuals.
