Paul-Bunnel
The Paul-Bunnell test, also known as the monospot test, is a blood test used to diagnose infectious mononucleosis (mono). The significance of the Paul-Bunnell mono spot test lies in its ability to detect antibodies called heterophile antibodies, which are produced in response to the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). The test is convenient, rapid, and cost-effective, allowing for quick diagnosis of mono, especially in cases where EBV infection is suspected. The Paul-Bunnell mono spot test aids in appropriate patient management, treatment decisions, and preventing the spread of the virus.
