Protein Electrophoresis
This Blood Test works by separating the proteins in your blood based on their electrical charge. This can be done for multiple reasons including:
To diagnose conditions related to abnormal protein production, such as multiple myeloma (a cancer of plasma cells), Waldenström macroglobulinemia (another cancer of the immune system), or monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS, a precancerous condition).
To monitor an existing condition that affects protein levels, like chronic liver disease or kidney disease.
To investigate inflammation or infection, as protein levels can change in response to these condition
To assess malnutrition or problems with nutrient absorption.
