1,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D3 (1,25-OH D3) is the biologically active form of vitamin D. It is produced in the kidneys from 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 (25-OH D3), which is formed in the liver from vitamin D3 obtained from sunlight exposure or dietary sources.1,25-OH D3 plays a crucial role in calcium and phosphorus homeostasis, regulating their absorption from the intestines and their deposition in bones.
