What is it?
Acne scarring occurs when breakouts penetrate deep into the skin, damaging tissue beneath the surface. As the skin heals, it may produce too little or too much collagen, resulting in indented (atrophic) scars, raised scars, or uneven skin texture. Acne scars are most commonly found on the face, chest, shoulders, and back.
Our Technology: The Nordlys™ System
At Epicare Health, acne scar treatments are carried out using the Candela Nordlys™ system, which includes non-ablative fractional laser technology designed to support skin resurfacing and renewal.
This technology delivers controlled energy into the deeper layers of the skin to support skin resurfacing and renewal, while leaving the surface largely intact. Treatment settings are adjusted based on scar type, skin characteristics, and treatment area to ensure a controlled and tailored approach.
Who is This Treatment Suitable For?
Acne scar treatment may be suitable for individuals concerned about uneven skin texture caused by previous acne, particularly where the skin appears indented, rough, or irregular.
As scarring varies significantly between individuals, a consultation is always required. This allows us to assess your skin properly and advise whether treatment is appropriate for you, as well as what level of improvement you can expect.
The Treatment Process: What to Expect
Consultation & Assessment: Your treatment begins with a consultation to assess your skin, the type of scarring present, and your suitability for treatment. This allows us to tailor the approach safely to your skin.
Preparation: Before treatment, your practitioner will ensure the skin is ready for laser or light-based treatment. This step is designed to support both safety and comfort on the area being treated.
During Treatment: As the laser is applied, you may feel warmth or a prickling sensation. Sensations vary depending on the area treated and individual sensitivity, but treatment is generally well tolerated.
After Treatment: You may experience redness, warmth, or mild swelling in the treated area. These effects usually settle over a short period. Aftercare advice will be provided to help support healing and optimise results.
How does it work?
Fractional laser treatment works by creating controlled microscopic treatment zones within the skin. These zones stimulate the skin’s natural repair process, encouraging collagen remodelling over time.
As new collagen forms and the skin renews itself, texture can gradually become smoother and more even. The treatment focuses on improving overall skin quality and reducing the appearance of scarring with gradual changes over time.
Expected Results & Timeline
Some people begin to notice early changes in skin texture as the skin starts to heal following treatment. Improvements continue to develop gradually as the skin renews itself over time.
For most people, the best results are seen after completing a course of treatments, with sessions spaced several weeks apart. The number of treatments needed varies depending on the type, age, and depth of the scars, but this will all be discussed during your consultation.
