Acne Treatment

From £159

What is it?

Acne is a common skin condition that develops when pores become blocked and inflamed, leading to spots, redness, and sore or irritated skin. While acne is often associated with teenagers, many adults continue to experience breakouts well into later life.

Inflammatory acne is typically characterised by red, swollen spots and areas of irritation. Treatments that target inflammation and redness can help calm the skin and support a clearer, more balanced appearance over time.

Our Technology: The Nordlys™ System

Acne treatments at Epicare Health are carried out using the Candela Nordlys™ system, which uses light-based technology to support calmer-looking skin and help reduce active breakouts over time.

The system uses Ellipse IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) with condition-specific wavelength filtering. This allows light energy to be delivered in a controlled way to areas of active inflammation while protecting the surrounding skin. Built-in safety features allow treatments to be tailored to different skin types and levels of sun exposure.

Who is This Treatment Suitable For?

This treatment may be suitable for people experiencing mild to moderate acne, especially where redness and inflamed breakouts are a concern.

Because acne can look very different from person to person, a consultation is always carried out first. This allows us to assess your skin properly and advise whether IPL acne treatment is the right option for you.

Common conditions treated include:

  • Acne Vulgaris (Common active acne)

  • Inflammatory Acne (Red, swollen spots and breakouts)

The Treatment Process: What to Expect

  1. Consultation & Assessment: Your treatment begins with a consultation to assess your skin, acne pattern, and overall suitability for IPL treatment. This allows us to tailor the settings to your skin safely, and a patch test may be carried out where appropriate.

  2. Preparation: Before treatment, your practitioner will ensure the skin is ready for laser or light-based treatment. This step is designed to support both safety and comfort on the area being treated.

  3. During Treatment: As the applicator passes over the skin, you may feel brief warmth or a light snapping sensation. Sensations vary depending on the area being treated and individual sensitivity, but treatment is generally well tolerated.

  4. After Treatment: Mild redness or warmth is common and usually settles quickly. There is no significant downtime, and you will be given aftercare advice to help support your skin between sessions.

How does it work?

The treatment works by delivering short bursts of intense pulsed light directed at the skin. This light combats acne through a powerful dual-action process:

  1. Neutralizing Bacteria: The light targets naturally occurring substances (porphyrins) produced by P. acnes bacteria—the bacteria responsible for causing acne. When the light hits these porphyrins, a reaction occurs that safely destroys the bacteria, reducing the infection.

  2. Reducing Oil Production: The light energy is also absorbed by the blood vessels supplying the sebaceous (oil) glands. By gently heating these vessels, the blood supply to the gland is reduced, which helps to slow down the overproduction of oil (sebum).

By addressing both the bacteria and the excess oil, the treatment helps the skin to heal itself naturally.

Expected Results & Timeline

Some people notice their skin starting to feel calmer after the first treatment. Redness and inflammation may gradually reduce as the skin responds over time, and active breakouts can appear less inflamed.

However, for the best results, a course of treatments is usually recommended, with sessions spaced a few weeks apart. The number of sessions needed varies from person to person and will be discussed during your consultation.

Note

This service is exclusively for individuals aged 18 and over.

During booking, only a £30 deposit is required for the initial consultation, and patch test where applicable, which will be deducted from the total treatment cost. The remaining payment will be collected at a later stage.
