What is it?
Thread veins and vascular concerns are common skin issues caused by visible blood vessels close to the surface of the skin. They often appear as fine red, purple, or blue lines and are most commonly seen on the face and legs. Facial thread veins are frequently associated with redness or flushing.
Although thread veins are usually harmless, many people choose treatment for cosmetic reasons, particularly when the vessels become more noticeable or affect overall skin appearance.
Our Technology: The Nordlys™ System
At Epicare Health, thread vein and vascular treatments are carried out using the Candela Nordlys™ system, which combines light-based and laser technologies to address visible vessels in a controlled and precise way.
Depending on the type, depth, and location of the vessels, treatment may be carried out using IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) or Nd:YAG laser technology. These technologies allow targeted delivery of energy to visible blood vessels while protecting the surrounding skin. Built-in safety features enable treatments to be carefully adjusted based on skin type and individual needs.
Who is This Treatment Suitable For?
Thread vein and vascular treatments may be suitable for individuals with visible facial or body veins who are looking to improve the appearance of their skin.
Suitability depends on factors such as skin type, vessel size, depth, and location. During your consultation, your practitioner will assess your skin and advise whether this is the right option you.

Facial Telangiectasias (Broken capillaries on the nose and cheeks)
Leg Veins (Superficial spider veins on the legs)
Rosacea (Specifically visible fine vessels and capillaries)
Diffuse Redness (Persistent background redness)

The Treatment Process: What to Expect
Consultation & Assessment: Your treatment begins with a consultation to assess your skin, the type of vessels present, and your suitability for treatment. This allows us to select the most appropriate settings and technology, and a patch test may be carried out where appropriate.
Preparation: Before treatment, your practitioner will ensure the skin is ready for laser or light-based treatment. This step is designed to support both safety and comfort on the area being treated.
During Treatment: As the applicator passes over the skin, you may feel brief warmth or a snapping sensation. Sensations vary depending on the area being treated and the depth of the vessels, but treatment is generally well tolerated.
After Treatment: It is common to experience temporary redness, warmth, or mild swelling in the treated area. These effects usually settle within a short time. There is minimal downtime, and aftercare advice will be provided.
How does it work?
Light- and laser-based vascular treatments work by delivering controlled energy to the blood vessels beneath the skin. The energy is absorbed by the blood within the vessel, causing it to gently heat and collapse over time.
Once treated, the body naturally breaks down and reabsorbs the vessel, allowing it to fade from view. Treatment settings are selected carefully to target the vessel while minimising impact on the surrounding skin.
Expected Results & Timeline
Some patients notice an improvement in the appearance of thread veins or redness after their first treatment. However, results develop gradually as the body naturally breaks down and reabsorbs the treated vessels over time.
For most people, the best results are seen after completing a course of treatments, with sessions spaced several weeks apart. The number of sessions needed varies depending on the size, depth, and location of the vessels, as well as how the skin responds.
