Description:
The phosphatidylethanol (PEth) blood test is a relatively new and advanced way to detect chronic or heavy alcohol consumption. PEth is a molecule formed in red blood cells when alcohol is present in the body; unlike most alcohol tests (which only detect recent consumption), PEth can be detectable for up to 4 weeks after the last drink. This makes it ideal for identifying patterns of heavy drinking.
