Methylmalonic acid (MMA) is a substance made in small amounts during metabolism. Vitamin B12 plays in big role in your metabolism, if you have low B12 levels your body will produce excess MMA to substitute for this. High levels of Methylmalonic acid in your urine can be an indicator of a B12 deficiency.
