The patient is seated comfortably. A tourniquet is applied to the upper arm to highlight the vein, and the insertion site is selected.
Cannulation:
The area is cleansed with an alcohol swab, and a sterile butterfly needle or cannula is inserted into the vein with care.
Infusion:
The IV drip is connected and administered over 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the formulation and individual tolerance. Patients are free to relax during the treatment.
Monitoring:
The patient is monitored throughout for comfort and any adverse reactions. After the infusion, the cannula is removed and a sterile dressing is applied.
Aftercare:
Patients are advised to stay well-hydrated, avoid alcohol and intense exercise for the rest of the day, and monitor the site for any irritation or bruising. Normal activities can usually be resumed immediately.
